The Federalist Papers
In 1787 and 1788, three founders of the United States published a series of eighty-five essays in New York newspapers to persuade the public to support the new Constitution. They explain why a strong federal government, separation of powers, and checks and balances are needed to preserve liberty.
Still quoted by courts and politicians, the Federalist Papers are a classic of political thought.
