La Chanson de Roland
In 778, the rearguard of Charlemagne's army, led by the brave Roland, is ambushed in the Pyrenees after a betrayal. Too proud to blow his horn and call for help until it is too late, Roland fights to the end.
The oldest major work of French literature and the greatest of the medieval chansons de geste.
