Faust
Dr. Faust, a scholar who has studied everything and is still unsatisfied, makes a pact with the devil Mephistopheles: if Mephistopheles can give him a moment of perfect happiness, Faust will give him his soul. Then Faust meets the young Gretchen.
Goethe's dramatic poem, his life's work, is a summit of German literature.
