Frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein, a young Swiss scientist, discovers the secret of life and creates a living being from dead body parts. Horrified by what he has made, he abandons it. Rejected by everyone, the creature turns to revenge.
Written by Mary Shelley when she was just nineteen, this Gothic novel is considered the first work of science fiction, and still asks powerful questions about creation and responsibility.
