Ilya Ilyich Oblomov, a kind-hearted Russian nobleman, spends most of his days lying on his sofa in a dressing gown. His energetic friend Stolz and the lovely Olga try to rouse him to action — but Oblomov prefers to dream.
Goncharov's novel gave Russian the word "oblomovism" and remains a funny, melancholic portrait of inertia.
