Prince Myshkin, a kind and innocent young man, returns to Russia after years in a Swiss sanatorium. In St. Petersburg society, his goodness looks like idiocy, and he becomes caught between two women — the proud, wounded Nastasya Filippovna and the young Aglaya — and the passionate, dangerous Rogozhin.
Dostoevsky tried to portray a "positively beautiful man." The result is one of his most moving and tragic novels.
